Montreal: Truevagabond x The Locals

Ask The Locals, Montreal |

NAME: Didi

AGE: 23

RESIDENCE: Currently Montreal (Studying in Montreal)

Q: Favourite event/festival?

A: Pop Montreal. It’s a music, art, and culture festival. Mostly music though, and it usually happens at the end of Sept. The Mile-end neighborhood is usually exploding with activity around that time. And a number of different genres of music are also represented as well.

Q: Favourite Street/Area?

A: Hmmmmm, my favourite street? It would have to be a tie between Bernard St & St Viateur. I like them because them because there is a lot happening on those streets. Bernard has a lot of great places to eat and a really nice charm to it.

St. Viateur has really nice vintage stores. Really nice coffee shops. And there’s this gorgeous church on that street as well. I love to grab a bagel and coffee and just sit on the church steps.

As for areas, this is the best piece of advice I can give to anyone from out of town. They’ve invested a lot of money in the downtown neighbourhoods, but really, the best areas are not downtown.

Stay away from the Old Port, it’s super touristy, and super expensive. Check out areas like the Mile-end, Park X, Plateau, Verdun, and St. Henry.

NAME: Henrika

AGE: 20′s

RESIDENCE: Montreal

Q: One thing that everybody must see or experience?

A:

Tams Tams on Sunday at Mont Royal Park. It’s an afternoon/evening time thing that happens in the summer. People bring their drums and just jam out in the park. You can drink alcohol and eat in the park as well. It’s always a good time.

Q: Best late night eats?

A:

St. Viateur Bagel, they’re open 24 hours and it’s cheap and really good. And if you want to be impregnated with Cheese Burgers try Arahova. They’re open until 4am. It’s all on the same street (St. Viateur) so you can’t miss it.

Q: Nightlife?

A:

Check out the Royal Phoenix, it’s a really a cool bar. It’s primarily a gay bar but it’s heterosexual friendly. If you want to dance all night, this is the place to go. You could also try Blue Dogs, it’s a bar/lounge that plays everything. Fridays might be reggae and hip hop, but ask around for more information.

Montreal has always been that city. But as of late, the city has been on fire. In just a little over a week the city’s streets will be flooded with Osheaga concert goers. So you would think the city would take things easy by getting prepped for the big festivities. But nah, not this city, things are only getting warmed up.

Montreal’s Old Port Gets a Face-Lift

Montreal’s Old Port just received a face-lift, with the addition of the ‘Clock Tower Beach’. And with festivals like MTL’s Jazz Fest already underway and Osheaga on deck, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Visitors to the city now have a new area to relax and take in some sunshine. However, this beach is just sand, boardwalk, and umbrellas – no swimming allowed. The beach is scheduled to be open from June 16th to Sept 2nd. If you’re visiting MTL in the near future be sure to check it out.

Montreal: Osheaga 2012

Woooow, I didn’t think MTL could get any cooler but it just did. It’s looking like I’ll be in the Paris of the north (and you should be too) for Osheaga, for the weekend of Aug 3rd to the 5th, 2012.  If you don’t know, Osheaga is a unique and eclectic music and arts festival that takes place on Montreal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau on ÃŽle Sainte-Hélène.  The line up is sick, Montreal is sick, so it’s a no brainer.  Tickets are now on sale, and they will sell out so don’t sleep.

Montreal: B&M’s Rasin Bread French Toast

Featured, Food, Montreal |

B&M – There are three B&M locations in Montreal, but without fail I always end up at the location on St. Viatuer. The Waiters there need not hand me a menu because I already know what I want. I go there for the Raisin Bread French Toast so I can pile it with mixed berries and smother that shit with syrup. It’s simple, clean but it’s pretty damn delicious.

J’aime Montréal

Montreal, Uncategorized |

Yeah, I know, this pic is crooked but this post isn’t about the pic and it’s more about where I spent my New Year. I spent it in Montréal, which is one of my favourite cities btw. I want to tell you that I did some hard partying, but I didn’t do much of that. And I’d like to tell you that I took some time to explore, but the weather wasn’t co-operating for me to do any of that.

Instead, I chilled with some good peoples and soaked in Montréal’s laid back culture. Oh, and I can’t forget about the abundance of good food that I indulged in (more on that later). Anyhow, 2011 was a good year and I hope 2012 is a better year for all of us. Stay tuned.
