There’s something uniquely special and breathtaking about seeing a city from a different perspective; whether you’re peering over a city from dizzying heights or taking it all in at ground level with the city smack-dab in your face. A great view makes for some excellent pictures and dreamlike moments, which translates to great memories. So with that said, here are 5 different cities and a number of different ways to help you shift your perspective. (photo: view from the Sacre Coeur in Paris)

Q:Favourite Street/Area?
A: My personal favourite area is Dundas St. West area, between Bathurst and Lansdowne. It’s low key, and it has a really nice chill vibe to it. There’s a lot of cool shops in the area; record shops, vintage shops, and coffee shops. There’s also a lot of cool bars. My favourite bar is the Communist Daughter but there are ton of other bars in that area to choose from.
if you want to explore there’s a bunch of other areas to check out. I would recommend that people check out areas such as the Junction, Roncesvalles, Bloordale, and Leslieville just to name a few.
Q: What’s one thing that everybody should see before they leave Toronto?
A: Definitely a show at Massey Hall. The acoustics at that venue are incredible. And I’ve had a lot of happy musical moments at that spot. It’s definitely a religious experience for me whenever I go there.
Q: Anything else?
A: Yes, check out Dakota Tavern it’s a great place to see musical acts. A lot of country, folk, rock, and bluegrass bands play there. And it’s just on the corner of Ossington and Dundas.
Toronto: Chop Up Shop

FACT: Most of us want what we can’t have, and most often what we want are the things that other’s have. Knowing that, a few individuals in Toronto are collaborating on a project that’s built on that premise. The project is called the ‘Chop Up Shop’, and it’s a market that allows you to shop from some of Toronto’s most creative closets and living rooms. The market opens it’s doors tomorrow (Sat Aug. 11th) from 3pm -9pm, so don’t sleep, because there should be a lot interesting finds.
Check the flyer above for all the details.
Toronto: Bastid’s BBQ
Let me make this clear, if you’re going to be anywhere near Toronto this weekend then you need to check out Bastid’s BBQ. But this isn’t just any BBQ, it’s SKRATCH BASTID’s BBQ one of the more talented DJ’s you’ll find just about anywhere. Not only is Skratch Bastid on the bill but there’s a slew of other talent as well, such as BadBadNotGood, Dj Wrispect, Tom Wrecks and a bunch of others. Trust me, if you’re in Toronto and you’re looking for something to do then this should be the place for you.

The Toronto Underground Market
Toronto Underground Market from Anna Pesavento on Vimeo.
There’s an underground movement happening in Toronto, an underground food movement to be exact. Every so often a large group of people gather at The Evergreen Brickworks building to sample the food of some of Toronto’s best home cooks and budding chefs. The event, which is called the Toronto Underground Market (TUM), has picked up some serious buzz since it’s inception; so much so, the last few were completely sold out (You have to purchase a ticket to attend). The next one is scheduled for July 7th and tickets will go on sale tomorrow Friday, June 22nd. If you’re interested in going and you’re going to be in Toronto around that time, click here.
Toronto: Fresco’s Chip & Fish

Located across the street from Kesington Park is a tiny take-out joint called Fresco’s Fish & Chips. I come here a lot. The fish and chips are amazing and they’re not all greasy and overbearing.

Q: Favourite place for late night eats?
A: Lakeview Restauraunt – It’s a great hangout spot that’s open 24 hours. And the food is pretty delish as well. You should also check out Vinnie Massimo’s. They serve up some of the best pizza in the city.
Q: Favourite Area/Street?
A: Parkdale/Queen area. I just love the vibe and feel of the place. It has some great places to shop and some wicked places to eat.
Q: Favourite place to shop?
A: Oh, Sydney’s hands down! He’s an amazing tailor who will tailor your shit to it’s exact proportions. It’s a bit pricey but he won’t let you leave the store without you looking good.
Q: Best time to be in Toronto?
A: I’d have to say August, it’s hot, and the festivals and events are in full swing (ie.Caribana & Taste of Danforth). Just a good time to be here.
Q: One thing every visitor to Toronto should do or try?
A: Toronto Underground Market – Foodie or no foodie you should definitely check this out. It’s basically an underground market where up and coming chefs can go and showcase their food. You have to buy tickets in advance to attend and I’m not sure how often it happens but you can find out more info at yumtum.ca.

Q: Alright Aneela, I have four questions for you. What’s an ideal meeting spot in Toronto? What’s a good place to grab a bite to eat? What’s one thing that everyone should see before they leave Toronto? And where should someone go to party?
A:
Parties: Toronto is a one-off party town, we’re not really into weekly’s. So for parties I would recommend Main Ingredient (hip hop, urban music), Yes Yes Ya’ll (Hip hop, urban music, mostly gay and lesbian party but everybody goes), and anything that 88 Days of Fortune does.
To Eat: Check out Zocalo. It’s this cozy, quaint spot that has excellent brunch and excellent food period. But I love their brunch.
A good meeting spot: The Common (a coffee shop) is a good meeting spot.
To See: The Powerplant – It’s a contemporary art gallery. It’s really nice, and something I think everyone should see before they leave Toronto.
