The Wynwood District – One Big Colouring Block
Arts, Featured, Miami, Things to See |

Miami – Out of all the districts that I visited in 2011, the Wynwood Art District located in Miami, Florida has to be one of the coolest. And when you see what they’ve done, you’ll probably feel the same. They’ve turned a stark neighborhood into one big colouring block (yeah, you read right, colouring block!), which is pretty awesome if you ask me. The neighborhood is literally just block after block of these vibrant street art murals. I got a chance to check out the district when I was in Miami for the Art Basel convention, and here’s a little of what I saw.

You may have thought I was exaggerating when I said that the place is one big colouring block, but I wasn’t, there are murals everywhere!

I could barely spot with my own eye a spot that yet to be touched, but the work still isn’t finished. When I was there I saw a ton of people adding their own artistic flair to the neighborhood.

In Wynwood, nothing is spared, even the local factories have been colorized.

When you’re in Wynwood, it’s all about the walls man, the walls. So that can see crazy ass murals like…

THIS! Yes, it’s just a man’s face but this mural gets all the more iller once you realize that this image was created with no spray can, but that the artist chipped away at the wall to create this.

Crazy right?

And this…

The colours in this mural are so vivid it’s surreal.

When you’re there, you’re gonna run into a lot of these types, you know, those cool innovative types that buck the mainstream, but ironically enough are the mainstream.

If you wanna get a feel for the area make sure you hit up this cafe, Panther Coffee, it’s where a lot of the locals hangout and they serve up some good shit. But more importantly, it’s always good to ask the locals a thing or two about the area.
